Crown Prince Frederik gears to take over Danish crown following 'affair' scandal

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark surprised the global community with a televised announcement on December 31, where she disclosed her decision to abdicate due to deteriorating health. The 83-year-old monarch named Crown Prince Frederik as her successor during the New Year's address.

"I believe the time is right. On January 14, 2024, marking 52 years since I ascended to the throne after my beloved father, I will step down as the queen of Denmark," she conveyed. "I entrust the throne to my son, Crown Prince Frederik."

Crown Prince Frederik, also known as Frederik André Henrik Christian, is the eldest child of Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik. The 55-year-old prince, affectionately called "Pingo" Penguin, holds the distinction of being the first royal to achieve a master's degree, specifically an MSc in political science from Aarhus University.

In 2000, Prince Frederik married Mary Elizabeth Donaldson, a former Australian marketing consultant. The couple has four children: Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent, and Princess Josephine.

Recent rumors of an affair between Prince Frederik and Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova created a challenge for their marriage. In October, photographs emerged of Prince Frederik spending time with Casanova in Madrid, engaging in various activities. Despite the speculation, both the royal household and Casanova vehemently denied any romantic involvement, dismissing the rumors as unfounded.
